Rose Boldrewood was a "young novelist searching for new material" at the time the notebook was created. She was the daughter of the Australian novelist T. A. Browne (Rolf Boldrewood) and used the pseudonym "Rose Boldrewood". She had one novel published, that being "The Complications at Collaroi", and later in life she wrote some memoirs of her father.
